A building full of first aid supplies, and still no idea what to do

We toured the Dick's Sporting Goods headquarters recently. They had large first aid kits in the building. Fully stocked. Hundreds of items inside. Not the ones you would usually find in a store, but the giant ones meant for professional use.

So we asked whether they still ran into problems when someone got hurt. The answer was yes.

Not because they did not have supplies. Because when something actually happened, people did not know what to grab, where it was, or what to do with it. No one was required to be first aid trained. So even with the right tools somewhere in the building, the moment still broke down.

Sometimes they tried to figure it out and lost time. Sometimes they gave up and let the issue get worse. And sometimes they skipped straight to outside care for something that could have been handled on site, turning a manageable moment into a much more expensive one.

In a real moment, people do not need a box full of options. They need clarity. They need speed. They need to know what to do next.
